WHO WE ARE

City Books is a book reseller/etailer that began in a garage in 2004 as River City Books. The company is now located in Oregon. It was founded to help Thrift organizations easily and environmentally dispose of excess books, movies, and music. As the business grew, it expanded both out of the garage and across the web. Friends and family became interested and subsequent locations were opened in California and Texas.

WHAT WE DO

Each City Books location houses between 300,000 and 500,000 books, DVDs, VHS tapes, and CDs. The company sells on 10 different marketplaces including Amazon, Abebooks, Half, Barnes & Noble, and Glyde, both in the USA and internationally. A proprietary software system uploads new books daily and we constantly reprice our inventory to ensure our buyers receive the best possible deal. City Books also prides itself on providing outstanding customer service, evidenced by our high rankings on Amazon and other marketplaces.

WHAT WE BELIEVE IN

The owners of the City Books companies have a desire to be involved in the book business and, at the same time, create a socially responsible organization. To accomplish these goals, we perform a number of charitable activities that promote literacy, the environment, and other causes both in the US and abroad.

• Donate books to local school districts and local prisons.
• Donate books to the post-Katrina New Orleans public libraries.
• Send containers of children's books to Uganda and other third world countries.
• Purchase excess books from Thrift organizations, thus saving landfill waste.
• Hire teens who are transitioning from state care to independent living, giving them valuable computer skills they can use later in life.
