New iPad Mini Features
To compete with the 7-inch tablets offered by Amazon and Google, Apple has just unveiled the iPad mini. If you’re considering a pre-order on October 26th or hitting up a Apple store on November 2nd for the mini, here’s a list of features to help you decide if it’s right for you.
Look & Feel
The iPad mini is constructed of the same anodized aluminum that was used for the iPhone 5, giving it a sleek feel. It also comes in black and white.
It weighs in at 0.68 pounds and is 7.2 mm thin. This gives it a slight edge over the heavier (0.74 pounds) and thicker (10.5 mm) Nexus 7.
With a 7.9 inch screen, the iPad mini has about 35% more display real estate than the Nexus 7. It has a 49% larger surface when browsing the web in portrait mode and 67% larger in landscape mode.
The iPad mini has a pixel resolution of 1024 x 769, which is as sharp as the iPad 2 but doesn’t compare to the Retina Display on newest full-sized iPad and measures just shy of the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 (both 1280 x 800).
The iPad mini features a 5MP iSight camera on the back, and a 1.2 MP Facetime HD camera on the front that surpasses the front-facing camera of the iPad 2.
Expect to get up to ten hours of web surfing, music, or video over WiFi and nine hours using a cellular network. Like the new iPods and iPhone 5’s, it charges via the Lightning adapter.
Not only does the iPad mini ship with the iOS 6 software update, you’ll have the option of getting the WiFi + cellular option with 4G LTE connectivity.
